One of my favorite things to do is dance. I started at a young age in ballet and gymnastics and evolved into jazz. I was a cheerleader through high school but never imagined I would go pro. Being on the San Francisco 49ers Gold Rush was one of the highlights of my college years. At 19, I got to travel to Barcelona for the American Bowl, experience the NFL from the sidelines every Sunday and meet some incredibly smart and talented women from all over the state who shared my passion for dance. Recently, we had our 20 year reunion. We said goodbye to Candlestick Park with one last half time performance. I’m not sure what I enjoyed most…seeing all the girls again…dancing with those gold pom poms or seeing my two boys with their jaws dropped in shock. I love that they got to see another side of me. I’m also happy they enjoy dancing themselves. We attend hip-hop classes in Oakland every chance we get.
Music is also a huge part of my life. I love music of all genres. My playlist has everything from Tupac to Train to Al Green. I admire creativity and people who are not afraid to be themselves. And those who have the confidence to get on stage and put on a show. It’s been an exciting journey watching my son Ricky develop as a musician, singer and songwriter. He’s a true entertainer. I enjoy the role as his ‘manager’ and helping him promote his talents. He’s performed during SuperBowl week in Phoenix, AZ, for Gridiron Greats charity out in Las Vegas and AFL China in Hawaii and Beijing. He’s currently recording an EP of his original tracks.
My other interests include fashion and shopping. This was definitely an acquired taste! Although I loved pretty clothes as a child…I’m not sure I knew much about fashion. I wore dresses most of the time because I don’t think I knew how to match. And I wasn’t too savvy with make up until later in life. Looking back, I’m thankful I was a late bloomer. I think about the pressure young girls are under to live up to the made-up beauties they see in magazines and on tv. I have to remind myself all the time that fashion and beauty should be fun, not a chore, so I don’t get sucked into the fantasy.
